A little background on Shannon…

I have spent about 13 years in the hospitality industry, starting as a server and working my way up to management & event planning.  I simply fell in love with hospitality. Being able to create special moments for perfect strangers is the best feeling in the entire world.  When I took the position as Food & Beverage Director at The View in October of 2017, I was very excited about our future as a venue. Our Grand View Room was opened in June of 2017, so I felt like I was getting in on the ground level.  For now, The View at Morgan Hill is literally the best kept secret in the Lehigh Valley for weddings, events, and dining.

What is something special/unique about your venue?

Our views!  The views at the top of Morgan Hill are truly stunning.  With the Delaware River Valley on one side, and the city of Easton skyline on the other side,  there is just an endless amount of backdrops perfect for each wedding photo. Our Grand View Room itself boasts wall to wall windows, allowing for a very light and airy space.

What is the best way for a couple to prepare to visit your venue?

The most important prep for a visit to our venue would be a list of questions that you may have.  Other than that, touring venues for weddings should be fun! When you find that perfect venue, trust me, you’ll know.

What is your fondest wedding memory-either from your wedding, if you are married, or from a wedding you attended?

My wedding day was perfect.  When my husband and I decided to get married, we knew we didn’t want a huge wedding that took a lot of planning.  With my hectic food and beverage schedule, we didn’t want to be stressed out on our special day. We eloped to Charleston, and got married in front of the Pineapple Fountain in Waterfront Park with about 20 of our closest family and friends.  The day was simple and perfect, and we were able to enjoy it with very little stress.

What is one of your hobbies?

More like a guilty pleasure – watching “Say Yes to the Dress.” There is nothing better than a Sunday off, snuggled up on the couch with my children (daughter 9, son 10 – and yes my son is addicted too), watching a marathon of the show all day.

What is your favorite movie and/or book genre?

Definitely comedies, or romantic comedies.  My family and I are also huge fans of the Marvel universe.

What does the perfect day look like to you?

There’s nothing better than a crisp, sunny Fall day.

What are some of your favorite aspects of working at a wedding venue?

Working with the different couples and seeing their different visions come to life in our space.  It is truly amazing to see how different the room ends up looking with each wedding. Every wedding is a story, and we love being able to be a part of them.

What do you wish couples knew about your part of the wedding industry?

The amount of time we put in for each couple or event that we have.  Or making ourselves as available as possible when any of them need us.  It’s important to know that all of your wedding vendors give up family time and holidays to make sure your day is absolutely perfect.  Even though sometimes it is hard to miss out on your own life, being able to deliver someone’s dream day makes it all worthwhile.

What is your favorite season and why?

Fall of course!  I hate the heat, and the cold, so Fall is the perfect temperature for me.  I also love the changing of the leaves. Plus, my birthday is in October, so it has always been my favorite month.

What do you like to do in your free time?

Spend time with my family.  We love family movie nights.

What is your favorite thing about the Lehigh Valley?

There is always so much to do!  The amount of growth that has occurred in the area in the last 20 years is amazing.  With the revitalization efforts in the cities of Allentown, Bethlehem, and Easton, it truly has made the Lehigh Valley a top destination spot in the country.

What is your favorite part of a wedding?

That first look!  Whether it be before the ceremony, or at the ceremony, nothing is better than seeing the couples’ reactions to seeing each other for the first time on their special day.  It is always filled with such emotion – love, joy, happiness. After years of weddings, I still cry at each one!

What is your best advice for a couple planning their wedding?

It’s your day – do what you want to do.  I can’t even tell you the amount of times I’ve had a couple ask me “Well, what do most people do?”.  That doesn’t matter. Each couple has a different personality and story, and each couple should tailor their day to their visions, not anyone else’s.

Do you have an embarrassing wedding moment? That happened to you/or that you observed?

Our path the bride walks down is made out of pavers.  I had one bride who had a very long, gorgeous veil with beading all around the edges.  That beading got caught in every paver as she attempted to walk down the aisle, yanking her head back each time.  I had to walk crouched down behind her holding her veil up the entire way, and try and stay out of the pictures.

What is a common mistake you see couples make while planning a wedding?

The most common mistake is not having a realistic budget.  The first thing a couple should do is sit down and decide how much they want to spend.  Prioritize the most important aspects of your day. Be willing to compromise in all aspects of the planning.  Also, don’t be afraid to ask for help or advice from your vendors. With hundreds of weddings and events under their belts, your vendors will be your greatest resource on your wedding planning journey.
