Sasha and Chris’s love story began at a movie theater, so it was only fitting that their wedding carried that theme. We loved these details they incorporated that told their story so perfectly. Thank you for sharing with us!

How did you meet?
We met working at Regal Cinemas in Northampton, PA. We actually didn’t like each other at first! So our love for each other developed as somewhat of a surprise to us and probably others around us as well.
What was your proposal like?
Chris proposed to me while we were stargazing on a giant boulder in Joshua Tree National Park. My sister and her boyfriend had speakers and started playing our song, and then Chris proposed. When we first started dating 6 years prior, we were stargazing in his backyard listening to that song, so it was a full circle.
What is something you wished someone would have told you in preparation for your wedding day?
Don’t sweat the small stuff. A lot of the small details only you will notice — and long as your guests are comfortable and have good food and drinks, they will be happy!
What moment was most important for you to have captured by the photographer?
Just that she captured our happiness and love, and I think she did!
What was going through your mind when you saw your significant other for the first time that day?
I was thinking about how handsome and confident he looked, and I knew he would tease me later for crying!
What made you cry?
Standing in the doorway with my dad waiting to walk down the aisle. My dad thought he would be the one crying, but I was a mess!
What was your favorite moment of the wedding day (if you had to pick just one)?
When we were walking back down the church aisle after having just been married, with all of the festivities ahead of us.
What advice would you give to couples who are currently in the planning process?
Make a list of what is important to each of you before you even start looking at vendors. Make sure you are on the same page or are able to compromise — you’d be surprised about how many things come up you have to make decisions about on the spot that you never thought of before. I felt like we looked a little clueless at times.
What surprised you?
How smoothly everything went. We really wanted to do a lot of the things ourselves — the music for instance, and the centerpieces and many of the floral arrangements were our own doing. It took a lot of work leading up to it, and I was certain something would go wrong with the announcing or music, but everything went really smoothly, and any small hiccups weren’t noticed by anyone but me!
What was most helpful in the planning process?
Keeping a notebook of everything that we needed to do or had done, with all of the important paperwork inside.
What was most helpful on the day of the wedding?
Our vendors were incredibly helpful in setting everything up and making our day go smoothly and in our vision.
What was your favorite design detail?
We had a movie theme for our wedding based on where we met. Our caterer found so many cute vintage items to go along with the movie theme that really made our day unique. A colleague at work also designed a movie poster for us based off of The Great Gatsby — he remade it as The Great Gillespie for our last name — which we used as our guest book.
What was something unique that you did?
We took our engagement photos at an old fashioned movie theater and our wedding invitation mimicked a vintage movie ticket. We also made our own centerpieces that held candles in tall vases that we decoupaged movie posters on, so the table names were movies instead of numbers.
What would you do differently?
I would have forced myself to eat more that morning. I was nervous and couldn’t eat, and I paid for it later!
What made you laugh? Did you have an unforgettable funny moment?
When Chris and I were having our first dance, one of the straps on my dress came undone! It wasn’t really noticeable though.
Leading up, what moment was most important to you?
There wasn’t a specific moment, necessarily, but we wanted to make sure we felt like we had time to spend together and reflect about the significance of the day; because for most of the day you’re being pulled in a million different directions and making sure you are spending time with all of your guests. Our photographer did a sunset shoot with us that day, and it was just the two of us for about 20 minutes, which was really nice.
Do you have any additional thoughts or comments you would like to share?
The biggest snafu of our wedding came about a month and half before when our caterer canceled on us. The food was really important to us because we preferred organic and locally sourced food, which was what the caterer we found provided. When they canceled it felt like we had to start over from square one with hardly any time to put it all together. But, the fact that we were able to find another caterer with such short notice just proves that things do come together. Sometimes you have to compromise or adjust your expectations, but the caterer we found ended up probably being better than our first choice, because she was so involved with the décor and setup, in addition to having amazing food.
