This wedding is great inspiration for the adventurous couple. Katie and Dan tied in little details throughout their day that created this nature inspired summer wedding. From the gorgeous wildflowers to the table names, everything revealed their love for adventures together… and it is only the beginning! Photographed by Adore vendor Nina Lily Photography, we are honored to share her beautiful images of Katie and Dan’s stunning wedding.
How did you meet?
In reality, we met on the dating app, Bumble, when it was a new thing four years ago. Our fake “cover story” when we like to mess around with people is the following:
Dan was snowboarding/slightly inebriated in the winter of 2015 and fell/cut his lip open. He couldn’t get the bleeding to stop and ended up at the ER where Katie was the dental resident on call. She was annoyed to get paged into the ED and have to leave her apartment to suture someone’s lip, but begrudgingly left her warm bed to do her job. She fixed Dan up and sent him on his way. At his post-op appointment one week later, he gave Katie his number and asked her out on a date. The rest is history!
We’ve tricked many people into believing this rendition, but we only ever let them think this really happened for two minutes before we fess up.
What was your proposal like?
Katie and Dan hosted a “hello/goodbye” party for their friends, two months after moving out of NYC. Two hours into the party, Dan called everyone into the living room to give a 30 minute power-point presentation (a true nerd at heart). He gave a summary of his life so far with the theme that he was always missing something. Halfway through the presentation, he introduced our relationship and showed a scrapbook that he’d kept of items from our early dating period (a ticket from our first date and drawings from the naked sketching class we once went to).
At the end of the presentation, he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was weird having 30 pairs of eyes on me in a moment that was so intimate, but it turned out to be super fun because our friends lived the story with us and we didn’t have to recount the story a million times on the phone. There were also many tequila shots with friends after I said yes. 🙂
What was your favorite design detail?
My wedding bouquet was absolutely marvelous.
What was most helpful in the planning process?
My husband! He made a color-coded excel spreadsheet that turned green whenever we typed “done” on a task.
What was most helpful on the day of the wedding?
Our day-of-coordinator, Kat Persing, handled EVERYTHING for us. She was our savior!
What made you cry?
Seeing Dan from afar for the first time. He cried when he read a card from me and during our first look.
What was going through your mind when you saw your significant other for the first time that day?
Holy crap, I am the luckiest girl in the whole world!
What was something unique that you did?
Since our dog isn’t the friendliest with strangers, we had the idea to incorporate him as our ring bearer by printing a cardboard cut-out of him and attaching it to a remote controlled car. We had my brother drive it down the aisle for us.
What was your favorite moment of the wedding day (if you had to pick just one)?
Saying our vows! 🙂
What made you laugh? Did you have an unforgettable funny moment?
My dad’s cell phone alarm went off in the middle of the most emotional part of my wedding vows. It was really quite hilarious when I looked out into the crowd and realized he was the guilty one. 🙂 Everyone laughed with us.
What moment was most important for you to have captured by the photographer?
Honestly, any and all of the moments because we both only felt pure joy that day.
What advice would you give to couples who are currently in the planning process?
Don’t worry about other peoples’ opinions in your planning process.. the day belongs to you and your significant other so design it however you’d like!
What would you do differently?
I would actually eat dinner!
What is something you wished someone would have told you in preparation for your wedding day?
I wish someone had found the typo in our wedding invitations before they went to print. 🙂
What surprised you?
How heavy my dress felt after a few hours even though it was extremely comfortable. I was so happy I had a 2nd shorter dress to change into — and sneakers!!
What was something unique that you did? (Pt. 2)
We choreographed our own swing dance (with the help of many intense lessons from Faryl Codispoti from Swing Kat entertainment). We kept it a surprise for all of our guests and they were amazed — the dance included me doing 5 back flips.
Leading up, what moment was most important to you?
1) Actually getting married and 2) Sticking the landing to our last and most dangerous move during our swing dance: when I flipped over my 6’3″ husband’s right shoulder (I fell many times as we learned this move and once kicked him in the face by accident).
Where did you go on your honeymoon? I am sure it was nice to relax after all your planning!
We haven’t gone yet, but we’re planning to go to India in February!
Do you have any additional thoughts or comments you would like to share?
Don’t sweat the small stuff!
Katie and Dan’s nature inspired summer wedding held subtle and obvious details that would move any adventurous heart. It was truly a beautiful day. Congratulations to the happy couple, and thank you for allowing us the honor of sharing your perfect day.
