Amanda and Forrest’s natural and modern, rustic and classic wedding was such a beautiful combination that created an absolutely stunning day. Adore vendor Olde Homestead Golf Club with its lush rolling hills and rustic barn was the setting and it fit perfectly. Another adore vendor, Allium Floral Design, added soft white florals and greenery to compliment the classic and rustic look. Overall it was such a gorgeous September wedding, we are honored to share.

How did you meet?
Forrest and I met at a bar in New York City. He is in the Navy, stationed in Virginia Beach, I lived in Manhattan, and he was visiting. We like to say we officially started dating during Fleet Week! We spent the entire week together and after that he would drive almost every other weekend from Virginia Beach to come see me. An 8 hour drive each way, I knew this man must really love me!
What was your proposal like?
At this point I moved from New York City to Virginia Beach. I was still commuting between Virginia and New York for work. After a nearly three week trip to New York, Forrest told me he wanted us to go backpacking that weekend. I was exhausted and not particularly into the idea, but I told him if he planned the trip and packed our bags, I would be down to go. We are big on outdoor adventuring so I knew he would have everything ready. We packed up the dogs and our gear and drove to Mt. Pleasant, Virginia. We hiked to the top of the mountain with all of our gear and set up camp for the night. Forrest told me he wanted to grab his camera because the sunset was incredible. As we were posing for the camera, he told me he loved me, got down on one knee and I was so overcome with emotion, a solid combo of crying and pure joy… I fully blacked out!! I know I said yes, but still thank goodness we have the photos! It was amazing! He also snuck a small bottle of champagne, champagne flutes and chocolate whoopie pies in his bag for us to celebrate afterwards!
What made you cry?
The morning of our wedding, Forrest and I woke up, had some coffee and exchanged our personal vows with each other. It was a very sweet moment we got to have before we went off to get ready with our friends. I loved this.
What was something fun that you did with your wedding party?
Besides our respective Bachelor and Bachelorette parties, we had a rehearsal dinner with our families, our bridal party and each of their significant others. The dinner was at The Shelby in Allentown, Pa., and it was DELICIOUS! Everyone loved getting to eat and drink together, family members made toasts- it was such a fun night. The weather was incredible so The Shelby opened all of the doors and windows, giving everyone the chance to walk around and mingle once we finished eating.
What was most helpful in the planning process?
Sara, (Confetti and Co.) made an enormous checklist for me to follow leading up to the wedding. It was a great way to help us stay organized through the entire process.
What was most helpful on the day of the wedding?
I made sure to surround myself with a positive group of people. I just wanted everyone to be in a calm and happy mindset. I was, my friends were, and so were our vendors. THAT was the most helpful!
What moment was most important for you to have captured by the photographer?
I loved that they captured our first look and I absolutely loved all of the candid dancing shots of our guests partying on the dance floor! They are amazing!
What was going through your mind when you saw your significant other for the first time that day?
We were staying in the same hotel room and exchanged our personal vows that morning. When we saw each other for the first time dressed for the big day was at our first look. I just kept repeating to myself, “I can’t believe this is happening! I’m marrying my dream man! How cool is that?!” Neither of us had any nerves, we were just so excited to be getting married.
Leading up, what moment was most important to you?
While planning the wedding, Forrest and I would always say to each other, “I just want everyone to have a good time” and that was ultimately most important to us. We wanted a big room full of people that meant the most to us. That’s exactly what we got and it was such a wonderful day!
What advice would you give to couples who are currently in the planning process?
ENJOY THE PROCESS! This is not meant to be frustrating in any way but an enjoyable part of the wedding. All this time and effort and MONEY goes into making a wedding, and in the end, it is the fastest day of your life. Enjoy it, embrace it and DO NOT BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP AND DO NOT SWEAT THE SMALL STUFF!
What was your favorite moment of the wedding day (if you had to pick just one)?
My favorite moment of the wedding day was when Forrest and I tucked away after the ceremony for some photos with our photographer. Our guests went off to cocktail hour and we got to just have some time to be silly, snap some pictures and get ourselves ready to party!
What would you do differently?
The day goes SO quickly, I wish I had more time to take family photos and mingle with every single one of our guests.
What surprised you?
Just how quickly the day goes! It truly flew by!
What was your favorite design detail?
The handwritten place cards were such a lovely touch. Everyone held onto their own and it made the seats that much more personal.
What made you laugh? Did you have an unforgettable funny moment?
The DJ was awesome and our photobooth had some great props, our guests were wearing the props on the dance floor and it was hilarious! Made for some great photos!
What was something unique that you did?
When our guests checked into the hotel we made sure they received a pregame pack! We put together goodie bags with snacks and beers for our guests to have while they got ready for the wedding. Everyone seemed to love those! Also, Forrest’s sister is an incredibly talented musician, (Her band is called Belle of the Fall) and we asked her if she would play our first dance for us. Maybe not a unique idea, but definitely a special way to incorporate her incredible talent into our wedding!
Where did you go on your honeymoon? I am sure it was nice to relax after all your planning!
We went to Saint Martin for our honeymoon and we stayed at Divi Little Bay Beach Resort. I have family that visits Saint Martin every year so they gave us a list of all of their favorite spots. Saint Martin has so many beaches, the best advice we were given was to rent a car and drive to as many of the beaches as we could. I am so happy we did!
What is something you wished someone would have told you in preparation for your wedding day?
I felt like everyone gave such great advice the entire time. There was nothing really I felt like we were not prepared for.
