On the perfect June day, Phil and Abbey had a traditionally sweet and sentimentally strong summer wedding. It was breathtaking and delicate in every way!
What was your proposal like?
Amazing and surreal. My hubby planned a trip to Paris for us while I was studying abroad in London for a semester. We only had one day in the city and it was full of adventure. He proposed in the courtyard outside of our little Airbnb. I fiddled for the keys at the door of the building with my back to him in this unlit open air courtyard. Out of the corner of my eye I saw him stick a folded up note towards me, “I wanted to give this to you earlier but couldn’t find the right time”. Still in the courtyard, still unable to open the door I read the letter. It was dark. I was squinting. Halfway through, I realized – oh man, this is it…this is really happening. So many sweet words and inside jokes. In the last line, he asked me to marry him. I turned around, he was down on one knee. In the dark. On the sidewalk. In his dress pants. In Paris. Added bonus? The ring box LIT UP when he opened it. So literally all I could see was this beautiful shiny ring and the man I loved with the biggest smile on his face. It was perfection.
What was most helpful in the planning process?
Having someone (aka Sarah Reese from Story by Design Events) to help carry out the vision I had for the day.
What was most helpful on the day of the wedding?
Having someone else (again, Sarah Reese from Story by Design Events) handle the set up and tear down!
What was something fun that you did with your wedding party?
We rented an Airbnb the night before with my bridesmaids; my hubby and his groomsmen stayed together somewhere else.
What would you do differently?
I would have had a videographer for at least the ceremony. I also would have rewritten my vows without any mistakes in my vow book!
What moment was most important for you to have captured by the photographer?
Prayer time together before the ceremony; first kiss; and walking out of the church!
What made you cry?
Definitely the prayer time we had together before the ceremony.
What made you laugh? Did you have an unforgettable funny moment?
Phil messed up his vows and I almost went into that nervous, uncontrollable laughter!
Leading up, what moment was most important to you?
Our vows and first dance!
What advice would you give to couples who are currently in the planning process?
Splurge on your honeymoon. It’s worth it. Don’t go overboard on the wedding, it goes so quickly and in the grand scheme of things, most of it will be forgotten. Get the big stuff right. Don’t go crazy.
Where did you go on your honeymoon? I am sure it was nice to relax after all your planning!
What surprised you?
How HOT the reception venue was!
What was your favorite moment of the wedding day (if you had to pick just one)?
Our first dance!
What was something unique that you did?
Instead of tossing my bouquet, I chose to pray over all of the single ladies as they seek what God has for them in the future and also pray for their future husbands.
Thank you for sharing your beautiful day with us Phil and Abbey! We wish you a lifetime of happiness!
