A Traditional and Intimately Romantic Microwedding

Caitlin and Matt’s traditional and intimately romantic microwedding was absolutely flawless. Despite the postponements, and many changes that were made due to the circumstances, every aspect came together in a way that focused on their love and the loved ones they had surrounding them. They will be having a full reception this upcoming year, and we cannot wait to see another celebration of their marriage. We are overjoyed for you Caitlin and Matt!

How did you meet?

We met in high school and have been dating since we were 15.

What was your proposal like?

His family has a mountain house that we go to all the time. The two of us went out on a hike with our dog and on the way back, he threw a toy to the dog to fetch and when she brought it back to me it said, “Will you marry me?” on it. Matt was down on a knee and had both of our families waiting back at the cabin as a surprise for an engagement party.

What was most helpful in the planning process?

I used The Knot religiously when it came to choosing my vendors. I read more reviews than I can count and I cannot say enough great things about the vendors that I chose. They have been beyond accommodating even through all of my postponements, etc.

What was most helpful on the day of the wedding?

We had a small reception in my backyard, which is where we also got ready, which was helpful that I didn’t have to worry about forgetting anything, etc.

What was something unique that you did?

My mom made me a clutch purse out of her wedding dress for me to use that day so that I had a piece of my parents wedding with me on my wedding day.

What made you cry?

I did a first look with my dad, and his reaction made me cry as well.

Leading up, what moment was most important to you?

I was brought up Catholic, so having a full Catholic Mass for our ceremony was very important to me.

What was going through your mind when you saw your significant other for the first time that day?

That I could not believe that I was about to be his wife.

What made you laugh?

Did you have an unforgettable funny moment? I couldn’t help my laughing watching my one-year-old nephew waddling down the aisle as our ring bearer in his little bow tie and suspenders.

What was your favorite moment of the wedding day (if you had to pick just one)?

Our “reception” that day was very intimate, due to Covid. So, I think that it made our first dance that much more special being that we weren’t distracted by all the lights and cameras and crowds of people. Aside from our vows, it was probably my favorite part.

What was something fun that you did with your wedding party?

One of my favorite parts of the day was the party bus that we got for us and our wedding party from the church to the reception at my house. It was about a 45 minute drive and it was so much fun to spend that time celebrating with them.

What surprised you?

Peonies are my favorite flower, but when we pushed my wedding from April to August, they were no longer in season. My florist called me two days before to let me know that she couldn’t use them, but she improvised the arrangement and it came out gorgeous.

What was your favorite design detail?

I am obsessed with my veil.

What would you do differently?

Stress less. I was a fairly low maintenance bride until I had to postpone twice. This kept me up at night stressing over upcoming restrictions, etc. I spent a lot of time upset that I wasn’t going to get the wedding that I had originally planned. Looking back, I wish I realized that it was going to be the best day of my life no matter what and there was no sense stressing over things that were out of my control.

What advice would you give to couples who are currently in the planning process?

This is definitely a crazy and stressful time to be planning a wedding (take it from someone that had already gotten her 250 responses back for her original wedding date on April 18th), and I would just say to not stress over things that are out of your control. It is going to be the best day no matter what, so make the best of the situation as best you can.

What is something you wished someone would have told you in preparation for your wedding day?

To appreciate every second because it goes by in a blink.
