How did you meet?

We met in high school freshman year and by senior year we were inseparable. We started dating during our first semester in college.

What was your proposal like?

Jonathan planned the proposal to coincide with exactly 12 years, 5 months, and 28 days since we started dating – a play on the date of our dating anniversary, 12/28/05. Jonathan re-created one of our favorite dates, a perfect beach day at Point Pleasant, NJ. While he was trying to propose, Danielle suddenly became interested in all the boats moving across the water. Eventually, she let him finish his speech/proposal, and the rest is history.

What was most helpful in the planning process?

Accepting that we needed to be flexible. Especially this past year, things were constantly changing so maintaining the ability and willingness to adapt was the key to making all of this a success.

What was most helpful on the day of the wedding?

KRISTEN!! She was our bridal attendant and absolutely amazing! She anticipated our every need (and some we didn’t know we had!). The day ran so smoothly because she expertly managed everything from A to Z.

What surprised you?

How on time we were! Danielle spent a LOT of time creating individual schedules for everyone in the bridal party (she even made pocket schedules for everyone to carry the day of) and it paid off!

What was your favorite moment of the wedding day (if you had to pick just one)?

Our first look. After over a year and a half planning our wedding and the added stress of wedding planning during a pandemic, seeing each other all dressed up was the moment everything fell into place for us. It was finally our wedding day!

What was going through your mind when you saw your significant other for the first time that day?

Jonathan: I was incredibly overjoyed. We’ve just been through so much that it was a feeling of peace and happiness when I saw her.

Danielle: I was so excited to see him! He’s my best friend and all morning I just wanted to talk to him about the day and how much fun it was getting ready. It was such a special moment knowing that we finally made it to our wedding day.

What made you cry?

Jonathan: I held it together but it was tough – especially seeing Danielle walk down the aisle.

Danielle: Everything! Jonathan’s vows, the toasts, our first dance… honestly I was teary all day from all the love and support from our family and friends.

What was something unique that you did?

We incorporated traditions from our heritages including Filipino traditions during the ceremony (candle, cord, veil, coins) and Lithuanian during the reception (bread and salt blessing). It was important to us to share our cultures as a way of honoring and joining our families together.

Leading up, what moment was most important to you?

Sharing this day with our family and friends. We wanted everyone to have a good time and be safe.

What moment was most important for you to have captured by the photographer?

There were 2. The first was Facetiming with Danielle’s grandma right after the ceremony because she was unable to attend. She is such an important part of our lives and we were devastated when we found out she couldn’t be there. Taking time to talk with her was so meaningful to us. The second was capturing a moment of us alone, taking it all in. The love and support was palpable – it was important for us to take a step back and soak it in.

What was something fun that you did with your wedding party?

We are all really close and have known each other for years. Planning the wedding with them by our side was a blast! We are looking forward to our rescheduled “Bachelor/Bachelorette” weekend in 2021!

What made you laugh? Did you have an unforgettable funny moment?

Our struggles with the Spotted Lantern Flies! They were everywhere – in my dress, on the shoulder of one of our groomsmen during the ceremony (which caused them to uncontrollably start laughing), and in the grass while taking pictures with the bridal party.

What was your favorite design detail?

The hidden easter eggs. We are kids at heart and love Disney, so to have some playful elements sprinkled throughout the wedding was so much fun. We had a dinosaur and a unicorn on our cake, Jonathan’s cufflinks had dinosaurs on them, our ceremony reading was a story about 2 dinosaurs who fall in love (“A Lovely Love Story” by Edward Monkton), and we had quotes from the movie “Up” in several places.

What would you do differently?

Honestly, in spite of the adjustments we had to make, the day far exceeded our expectations. It was perfect.

What advice would you give to couples who are currently in the planning process?

Accept that things will not go according to plan. Sometimes the things you aren’t expecting, turn into some of the best memories. Also, plan your big day – together! Some of the most fun we had included designing our invitations, picking the wedding colors, and shopping on Etsy.

What is something you wished someone would have told you in preparation for your wedding day?

It’s okay not to be okay. Stress, worry, frustration – it’s all part of the process. What’s important is to take a deep breath, take a step back and remember the reason you’re doing this.
