From the Photographer: The inspiration for the shoot was the dark, New Orleans-centric world of The CW’s show “The Originals.” I’ve always loved the entire aesthetic of the show. As a photographer, I find myself watching media and noticing the color, the lighting, the scene often before I really absorb the acting and story itself. The story of the Mikaelson family was always one that I appreciated- being at such odds with the people you loved the most and being willing to do anything to protect them. I wanted to honor the show while creating something dark and a little moody that could actually work for a real couple. I was thrilled when Sarah Petryk of Allium Design, also a fan of the show, jumped on board. We opted for a location that would be reminiscent of the lush bayou and brought in deep colors and soft metallics to round out the color palette. We wanted a dress that felt bridal but still easy and comfortable. The BHLDN Belize dress was a perfect fit. We complemented the dress with a classic black three piece suit. Stationary by Eros Studios in a dark but clean style set the mood, working in not only a level of sophistication but a nod to the show in the runic feeling of the reply card. Our talented chef, Erika Urso of Love Bites by Erika, brought in a classic southern inspired menu, with the grand finale-a mini beignet wedding cake, with a salted caramel sauce and the Always and Forever cake topper.
From the Floral Designer and Stylist: We wanted our décor to feel rich and romantic, with a little bit of a nod to the south, embracing that overgrown vibe. The venue, Promise Ridge, is a dreamy spot for elopements and the overlook, woods and incredible lush plantings at the living wall made for a spectacular backdrop. We added in an old screen draped with vines and Spanish moss to extend the planted wall. For the ceremony, we used a velvet settee, for our couple to be married-seated. For the tablescape-we used florals and greenery that were a little wild, reaching and spilling of the table. And those tall dark candlesticks offered balance on the other end and the soft, reflective light gave off a sultry feel.
Our celebrant, Alisa Tongg reminded us about this Indigo Girls song-and it really captured the ethos of the design in such a special way. “Dark and dangerous like a secret that’s whispered in a hush, when I wake the things I dreamt about you last night, make me blush.”-Indigo Girls.
