We are so privileged to have talented photographers in the Adore family, all with unique and gorgeous styles. Kristy Hoadley’s (Easton, Pa) wedding photography is one of those talents, and we are thrilled to share her wisdom with you today!
How did you get started in this business?
I always loved photography! And when I finally bought myself a camera, I had no intentions on doing weddings. The thought scared the hell out of me! But, I had a client contact me for her wedding. I honestly didn’t even respond to her for almost 3 months! When I finally got the nerve to email her, I told her I had never shot a wedding before. She was certain I would do a wonderful job, that she convinced me to just do it. So I did, and fell in love with it! Now I absolutely love shooting weddings, and I can’t get enough! It’s almost like a drug for me. I have that one client to thank for that.
What brought you to the Lehigh Valley?
My parents were born and raised here. I was born in South Carolina, but raised mostly here. Traveled back and forth between SC and the LV most of my adolescent years. And stayed here since I was 19.
What is your favorite restaurant to eat at in the Lehigh Valley? Your favorite dish to order?
I’m so boring!!! We don’t get to go out much. We spend a lot of time at home with our little girl or with family. But, any time you want to go to Olive Garden for soup and salad… I’m your girl!
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
I have a few favorites, as a photographer: details (I’m a details person. I was a graphic designer for most of my adult life, and I love organization. So I’m very into details.); the moment the groom sees his bride for the first time! Gets me every time!; and bride and groom private portraits (capturing their love for each other and freezing that emotion forever that by looking at the photo can take them back to that moment.)
What song/music is in heavy rotation for you right now?
I have an extremely eclectic music collection! From 90s R&B to Mushroomhead and Slipknot. I have well over 600 songs on my phone and play it on shuffle. So, I can go from busting out my best running man to head banging with the best of ‘em!
What is your favorite season and why?
Spring and Fall. I’m a hoodie, jeans and flip flops kinda gal. I like it warm, but not hot, and cool, but not cold. But I LOVE the beach, so summer too; only if I can be at the beach the whole summer though!
What is your best advice for a couple planning their wedding?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help or suggestions. This is your first time planning a wedding, but we, as wedding vendors, have done this many times over. If you don’t know what you should have or expect, ask. I may be a wedding photographer, but I can help you find another vendor or answers to many wedding related questions.
What is one of your hobbies?
Hmmmm…. I don’t know that I have any. But, I do like to read a good murder thriller, or watch murder documentaries.
What is your favorite movie and/or book genre?
I have a few favorite movies, and I’m pretty cliché… I love the brat pack, so my fave is The Breakfast Club. But, you can always catch me watching Dirty Dancing and Roadhouse, because who doesn’t love Patrick Swayze?! For books, as I mentioned above, I love murder thrillers. And if there’s a woman detective in it, even better! Before they made a TV series about it Rizzoli and Isles series was one of my faves.
Do you have an embarrassing wedding moment? That happened to you/or that you observed?
Oh boy do I?! So I’m second shooting a bride and groom portrait session and I decide to climb up on a chair, something I do often. I even took my shoes off, so I wouldn’t slip in them. Well it was a folding chair, and I must have moved, because the chair collapsed and my leg got stuck in the folded part of the chair. The groom had to pry my leg out. Which took about 2-3 minutes. I wasn’t hurt terribly bad, but my pride sure was!!
What is a common mistake you see couples make while planning a wedding?
Not asking how to get what you want and settling. Then you don’t have fond memories to look back on because you were disappointed. Communication is key.
What does the perfect day look like to you?
Wake up ON TIME! Get Liv off to school, edit a session, clean the house… oh wait! You said “perfect” day… laying on the beach all day with a cold beverage in my hand!
What do you like to do in your free time?
Free time? What is that?! I’m not a big fan of free time, seriously, there’s always something I could be doing. And the more on my plate at once, the better. I can’t focus when I have too much time.
What is your fondest wedding memory-either from your wedding, if you are married, or from a wedding you attended?
The best wedding I went to so far was that first wedding I shot as a wedding photographer. They did a choreographed dance as there first dance and it was AMAZING! The energy in the room! It was so much fun!
What are some of your favorite aspects of your business?
Building friendships with my clients! It’s like we’ve been friends for years and I get the honor of going to their wedding. It’s really awesome!
What is the best way for a couple to prepare to meet with you?
Have questions. Do some research. Don’t be afraid to ask if you don’t know.
Is there anything else you would like our couples to know about you/your business?
I’m pretty easy-going, and I love to help people (probably why I’m a nurse when I’m not shooting weddings). I’m extremely organized, so if you need help with any part of your planning, need suggestions, opinions? Ask, I’m here to help!
