How did you meet?
We met in art class in high school!
What was your proposal like?
We got engaged Christmas morning of 2015. We had just bought our first house together, and moved in a few weeks before Christmas. It was our first Christmas in our new house, and we were opening presents together. There was a big box with my name on it, and Brandon told me to save that one for last. I opened it, and to my surprise it was a puppy crate! Inside the crate was a picture of an adorable puppy, which we would be picking up and bringing home a few weeks later. I immediately started crying, as I was so excited for our new puppy! Also inside the crate was a letter to me from the puppy. The proposal was cleverly written in the letter, but it took me a few times to figure it out. Brandon kept telling me to re-read the letter. After about the fourth time reading it and finally figuring it all out, I looked up and Brandon was holding the most beautiful ring! Of course I said yes, and the rest is history!
What was something fun that you did with your wedding party?
This wasn’t something I necessarily took part in, but my bridal party did something so fun and sweet for me that I will always cherish. They put together an awesome video full of funny pictures and messages from each of them. They played it for me the morning of the wedding while we were all getting ready. Thank goodness we watched it before I had my makeup done because I laughed and cried through the whole thing!
What surprised you?
I was surprised by how relaxed I was throughout the day. I am a type A, hyper-organized person, and I thought for sure I would feel very anxious throughout the day. We spent almost two years planning every detail, and I was about to watch it all unfold. Surprisingly, I felt so relaxed and at ease throughout the entire day. I was just so happy and overjoyed that I didn’t have time to be nervous or anxious!
What was most helpful in the planning process?
Staying organized! I put together a binder where I kept all vendor information, contracts, payments, etc. It was so helpful to have all the information I needed in one spot!
What was most helpful on the day of the wedding?
Champagne! (Just kidding!) Having the BEST bridesmaids that always checked on me throughout the day and night was so helpful. Also, Brandon was so relaxed and happy. Seeing him like that definitely helped keep me calm and present in the moment!
Leading up, what moment was most important to you?
Having FUN! All details aside, I wanted to make sure everyone had a great time, and that it was a day we would always remember.
What moment was most important for you to have captured by the photographer?
Our first look. It’s such a special moment that can never to be re-enacted. It was important to us that those raw emotions were captured. Tassia and John (our photographers) did an amazing job at capturing our first look!
What made you cry?
I cried A LOT during our wedding day, but our first look made me cry, for sure!
What was going through your mind when you saw your significant other for the first time that day?
We did a first look, so I saw Brandon well before the ceremony. I had such crazy butterflies in my stomach as I was walking up behind him. Of course, I was hoping he liked my dress! I was feeling a flood of nervousness, eagerness, and pure joy all at once. He looked so handsome, and I was just so excited to finally marry him!
What advice would you give to couples who are currently in the planning process?
Don’t worry about the little things! All the details I stressed about were things no one remembered once the wedding was over. Have fun and soak up every second- it flies by!
What is something you wished someone would have told you in preparation for your wedding day?
Just relax and focus on all the memories you’re creating. It’s so easy to get caught up in the stress and craziness of planning that you forget to relax and enjoy each moment. At the end of the day, no one remembers all the little details. You’re marrying the love of your life and that should be your focus- not the color of your napkins or how many tea lights are on each table. Your wedding is full of moments you’ll never get back, so soak it all in!
What was your favorite design detail?
I loved how cohesive everything was and how all the little details tied together. We had accents of gold throughout the tables, décor, flowers, etc. It all went together so well and matched the vibe of our venue perfectly.
What made you laugh? Did you have an unforgettable funny moment?
Right before our first kiss as husband and wife Brandon shouted out, “Pucker up, precious!” and everyone busted out laughing!
What was your favorite moment of the wedding day (if you had to pick just one)?
I vividly remember sitting at our sweetheart table during dinner and taking a moment to just look around and soak everything in. Everyone we loved was there celebrating this beautiful day. They were all smiling, laughing, and having a great time. I turned to Brandon and expressed how grateful I was to have all our friends, family, and loved ones all together. I felt so present in that moment, and it was a feeling I’ll never forget.
What was something unique that you did?
Although I’ve seen a few other couples do this since our wedding, we decided to forgo favors. Almost every wedding we’ve been to we either forgot our favors on our table, or we ended up throwing them away (sorry!). Instead, we decided to use the money we would have put toward purchasing favors and made donations to charities that are important to us. We donated to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation and the American Heart Association. We felt the best gift we could give was the gift of helping others live better and healthier lives. During the reception we put a note on each table to make our guests aware.
Where did you go on your honeymoon? I am sure it was nice to relax after all your planning!
We went to Phuket, Thailand! We wanted to go somewhere where we would probably never get to go again. We figured we’d never get another chance to hop on a plane and go to the other side of the world. We did a lot of research, and decided Phuket was the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation. We worked with Alison Murphy from V.I.P Vacations. She was great at helping us plan every detail from our accommodations to our excursions. Every part of our trip was nothing short of amazing! It was everything we could have dreamed of and more!
