What are some of your favorite aspects of James Boburka Cinematography?
After many years of being a cinematographer, I still really enjoy filming a couple’s wedding day. The happiness, togetherness and joy on a wedding day can’t be beat!
What is your favorite part of a wedding?
Every aspect of filming a wedding day has its enjoyable moments, like the ceremony, bridal party introductions, toasts, first dance, etc. However, I find the pre-ceremony to be my favorite time to film. For the bride and her bridesmaids, the pre-ceremony is an event unto itself. It often comes with nerves, toasts, and stories about their relationships. Capturing a combination of the voices, as well as the film images, makes for a wonderful start to a wedding film. In addition, some of the most emotional moments happen during the pre-ceremony, such as a father seeing his daughter for the first time in her wedding dress. This moment can really make for an emotional and beautiful film image. Properly capturing moments like this is the reason why I believe everyone should have their wedding day filmed by a professional film maker.
What is one of your hobbies?
My hobbies include everything having to do with the outdoors. From jet skiing to hiking in the woods. If it’s outside, I’m there!
What is your favorite movie and/or book genre?
I’ve been enjoying all the Star Wars films with my kids.
What does the perfect day look like to you?
Doing anything with my family and our dogs.
What is your favorite season and why?
Fall. Because of the colors and beautiful weather.
What is your best advice for a couple planning their wedding?
You are planning one of the most important days of your life. Unfortunately, this may result in some stressful moments in trying to make your wedding day perfect! My advice is this…When you wake up on your wedding day, forget about everything except your sweetheart who you are about to marry. Forget about the planning, forget about the weather, forget about the things that need to be delivered to your ceremony or reception. Just focus on your new spouse and having the time of your life!
What do you wish couples knew about your part of the wedding industry?
I’d like couples to know that editing, which may seem easy, is actually one of the most complicated parts of the job for a film maker, and that no two editors are alike. I have learned that a person can go to the best film schools and learn from the best teachers, but if they don’t have a natural talent to put a wedding story together, then they won’t last long in this business. Bottom line, hiring an experienced wedding film maker is incredibly important.
What is your fondest wedding memory-either from your wedding, if you are married, or from a wedding you attended?
My fondest memory is watching my soon-to-be wife walking down the aisle with my father-in-law and feeling a sense of calm confidence. For me, this was the best decision of my life. I knew it then, and after years of marriage, I feel the same way today.
What is your favorite restaurant to eat at in the Lehigh Valley? Your favorite dish to order?
I’ve been enjoying the Forks Mediterranean Deli in Easton (Forks Township). They have a salad called the Joelle Special, which is outstanding.
Is there anything else you would like our couples to know about you/your business?
One of my filming strengths is the ability to showcase the beauty of the bride in a way that, years from now, her children will say “Wow, Mom you are so beautiful!” Also, there are many talented photographers that can take amazing still images for you on your wedding day. However, having a wedding film, which utilizes proper lighting and audio, and showcases all of the emotion of the day through expert editing, will provide you with an instant heirloom to share for generations to come.
What is the best way for a couple to prepare to meet with you?
It helps me to know what a couple is looking for in their wedding film. Determine what style of wedding film you are partial to and ask if I can provide that for you. The most successful wedding films begin with the initial meeting and the ability to develop a rapport and trust that will allow the film maker to do his/her best work for the client.
