Froggy’s Garden Flowers: Lehigh Valley Wedding Florals

Meet Holly, the creative mind behind Froggy’s Garden Flowers of Kintnersville, Pa! Her work is absolutely stunning and will make you feel like you are in a secret garden! We love it!

How did you get started in this business?

I actually started in the corporate world, working on clinical trials – doing data management, project management, and corporate training.  As interesting as it was being in the forefront of medical breakthroughs, I needed a change and wanted to work creatively with my hands. While working full time, I took a 10 week floral design certificate course and really enjoyed it.  Over the years I’ve had the opportunity to work with, learn from, and be inspired by numerous designers, including being part of the Shaffer Design Team installation at the Philadelphia Flower Show for the past 5 years. Eventually I was able to work part time, and then fully switch careers to a full time floral designer and small business owner!

What song/music is in heavy rotation for you right now?

I have a Pandora channel I created which I call Froggy’s Garden.  It is comprised of a mix of 80’s alternative, current alternative, a spot of disco, and a dash of 60’s French artists.  It keeps me groovin’ while I’m designing!

What is one of your hobbies?

Curling up with a good book and a cat!

What does the perfect day look like to you?

Exploring a new city or landscape on a warm sunny day.  Dinner under the stars with friends and loved ones.

What brought you to the Lehigh Valley?

My hubby, Jason!  His family owned a property in Springfield Township, of which he had fond childhood memories.  During our house search after we got married, we fell in love with a 200 year old home with a collapsed barn that had secret garden potential.  Coincidentally, our house was quite close to that family property. A few years after moving in, we did end up converting our barn ruins into a garden for Jason’s brother’s wedding!

What is your favorite restaurant to eat at in the Lehigh Valley? Your favorite dish to order?

I really enjoy the carnitas and margaritas at Casa Toro in Coopersburg.

What is your favorite movie and/or book genre?

I’m not really up on movies, but my favorite TV show is the ‘Durrels in Corfu’ and my favorite reads, ‘The Cemetery of Forgotten Books’ series by Carlos Ruiz Zafon.

What is your favorite season and why?

I’m a summer girl. Eating alfresco, strolling through gardens searching for critters, enjoying the fireflies dancing through the sky… all put me in my happy place.

What is your favorite part of a wedding?

First looks.  The couple seeing each other for the first time that day; the bride seeing her bouquet for the first time; the squeal of delight when first seeing the venue transformed by flowers.

What is your fondest wedding memory-either from your wedding, if you are married, or from a wedding you attended?

We released butterflies at our wedding and it was delightful having them land on us!

What is your best advice for a couple planning their wedding?

If flowers are important to you, hire your florist early in the planning process, vs. waiting until the end when your budget has been depleted.  Most people are surprised by the cost of florals.

What are some of your favorite aspects of your business?

I like the variety of people I get to meet and using my creativity to interpret their vision into something truly unique and special for them.  There was a bride I worked with recently that collected all sorts of chotchkies, like hedgehogs, mice, chickens, bicycles, unique containers etc. I had a chance to integrate them into the centerpieces so it was like fun puzzles for the guests to find the little mementos hidden throughout the flowers. She also had a hobby of embroidering hoops which we then connected together to form the ceremony backdrop.  This summer I have a bride who’s theme is dinosaurs and we are integrating them into her bouquet, her fiancee’s boutonniere, and the centerpieces.

What is a common mistake you see couples make while planning a wedding?

Not having realistic expectations of their time or skills for DIY projects.  DIY can be a money saver, but in the few days (or day of) your wedding, why add the stress of decorating the arbor, creating table arrangements, or having to unpack and wash all those vases and peel off the stickers. We suggest delegating to a trusted expert so that the couple can enjoy their celebration with families and friends, and leave the creation, delivery, and setup of the beautiful arrangements to the professionals.

Do you have an embarrassing wedding moment? That happened to you/or that you observed?

I wouldn’t say it was embarrassing because I’m not sure many people noticed. I blame it on the rain, which forced our ceremony to be held inside. After the ceremony we had nowhere to go except into the reception space where someone had dropped their bright red lipstick onto the floor. My husband unknowingly stepped in the lipstick and smeared it all over the hem of my dress. I swear we weren’t even married 5 minutes!  Oh well, just roll with the flow and enjoy the day.

What do you wish couples knew about your part of the wedding industry?

Florists do NOT tack on a charge for weddings.  Flowers are just simply expensive, sometimes coming from South America, Netherlands, Thailand, or California.  We purchase from local growers during the growing season, but blooms like roses and orchids need a passport. Local flowers are not any less expensive because they are organically cultivated by small scale farmers.  As a result, those picture-perfect Pinterest designs can be quite pricey.

What is the best way for a couple to prepare to meet with you?

For me, visuals are extremely helpful.  When you send me inspiration pictures or Pinterest board links, they quickly convey the aesthetic of your wedding.  Let me know your color palette and the overall feeling you want your guests to experience. Then trust in me to find the special blooms, foliage, textures, and color variations that will work perfectly with your attire, personality, and venue.

Is there anything else you would like our couples to know about you/your business?

I will treat your wedding as if it were for my best friend. I prefer to meet in person so I can learn about your vision, but can certainly accommodate conversations by email or phone.  We’ll connect again prior to your wedding to gain final counts and ensure all the details are covered. I spend a lot of time selecting the perfect blooms and foliage and adding just the right details so that you’ll have that perfect bouquet, backdrop, and centerpieces.
