Written by Meg Fox: Fox and Finch (Bethlehem, Pa)
I typically spearhead the styled shoots that Fox and Finch participates in, but Abby was itching to flex her creative muscles! She wanted to do a shoot featuring the beauty of our natural light studio space. It was her idea to “hang a bunch of stuff” from the rafters. After brainstorming with her and Sarah Petryk from Allium Floral Design (Bethlehem, Pa), we worked out this vision of an anti-gravity shoot.
The goal was to have as many items as possible, not touching the ground. We wanted to create this feeling of lift. We talked about the color of the sky: blues, whites, grays; and how we could incorporate them. As always, we also wanted to feature as many of our incredible local businesses as we could.
Lauren Driscoll was the perfect photographer to capture all the fun in our studio. She has created fabulous images in our space in the past and has a keen eye for capturing movement and flow. Her moody editing style anchored the light, airy shoot.
The table was suspended and draped with airy, white chiffon. Handblown glass vases from Market and High cascaded down the table offering perfect vessels for orchids and branches. Stemless wine glasses, also from Market and High, stood at the ready.
Models and Attire
We reached out to local yogis from West End Yoga Center, Leah and Jesse Naylor, to show off their aerial yoga and couples yoga skills. During the shoot we all watched in awe as these incredible athletes struck elegant, strong poses. Leah looked absolutely stunning in a dusty blue convertible dress from BHLDN. We chose this dress for its versatility and beautiful draping. It moved with Leah to create absolutely magical movement shots.
Jesse looked handsome in his equally flexible attire chosen from his home wardrobe. But his whimsical bowtie was provided by DAZI and gave him just a pop of color to tie his look to his bride’s.
Hair and Makeup
Katelynn Walsh was on deck for hair and make-up and gave Leah a fresh, natural look. She is always a pleasure to work with and creates beautiful faces for both events and editorial work.
Leah and Jesse also wore custom made jewelry from local artisan, Lauren Stoy of L2 Creations. Lauren handcrafted the gold rings and necklace in her Bethlehem, PA home studio.
Floral Design and Decor
Abby used her picking skills to source the antique bed springs that were suspended from the ceiling to create the ceremony space. Sarah from Allium prepared the inspired garland made of baby’s breath to frame our lovely couple as they exchanged vows. Sarah incorporated white orchids, tulips, pale daffodils and branches to create this wild and free bouquet as well.
Cocktails and Desserts
Cocktail hour was graciously provided by Allentown, PA based County Seat Spirits. And what’s the airiest dessert you can think of? …cotton candy of course! Dessert was also suspended from the ceiling on plexiglas shelves, with more bed springs and a hint of dry ice for a smokey effect.
For a full-fledged smokey effect, Omnivent Inc. provided a fog machine. Our couple was dancing on clouds inside the studio and it was magnificent.
We couldn’t end the shoot without taking full advantage of Leah’s skills. We suspended a yoga swing and asked Leah to show off some of her best poses. My favorite of the day is still her and Jesse together. Their trust and strength as a couple is absolutely inspiring.
Thank you to all of our fabulous vendors who contributed to this fun shoot. And brides, don’t be afraid to think outside of the box. Your wedding should be a reflection of you and your passion as a couple. Namaste.
